Mark started with the DFW Tri Club as a new coach. He is a USAT Level I Certified Coach and has attended TrainingPeaks University, the DFW Tri Club Coaching School, and the Endurance Summit. When he came on board, he worked hard for his athletes, training groups and with club members. He is the club lead for Blood Lactate Testing (performance testing) and has been the Swim Basics Clinic Coach and the Director of Group Training. He became a partner in the summer of 2016. Since then, his gears have shifted to focus on the greater good of the club as a whole.
His background, as a CPA and Corporate Controller for a restaurant franchisor, has equipped him to handle the rigors of leading the club and energizes him. He still maintains some private athletes and you’ll definitely see him at club workouts and open water swims! Do you need help finding a new coach? Mark is a great place to start. Because he is not taking new clients at the moment, he can help guide you on your big decision and make introductions.
As an athlete, he has been active all of his life. He grew up playing all sports, but especially soccer. In High School, he ran the 400-meter Track & Field event up to the Los Angeles City Section quarter-finals. He also led his soccer team to the Los Angeles City Section semi-finals. He played club soccer with the East-West Soccer Ambassadors, representing the United States in some European “football” tournaments, but he eventually ended up trading in soccer for Triathlon. While he was a member of a local racing team, he qualified for Team USA in the Standard Distance Duathlon and consistently qualified for Nationals (Triathlon).
Mark’s coaching style balances calm and mellow with high intensity. He listens to his athletes and is pretty good about pushing them, but backing off when the time is right. He tries to communicate why certain skills are useful in practice or in a race. He is not shy about communicating his rationale for the sake of understanding and education. When he started in the sport, he tended to overtrain, so can recognize overtraining and help you if that is a trait you possess as well.
Mark currently lives in Dallas with his beautiful, amazing and supportive wife, Esther, and son, Abraham. You can also follow Mark on Twitter @ExclaimedMark or his blog at www.TriCoachMark.com.
